I had to beg my father, Zeus, to let me help the mortal that goes by the name Odysseus. I wanted to help to help him because I felt bad for him. Going into battle and not being able to get home, I had to help. I, Athena, had assisted him and his men throughout many parts of their journey. I helped them get past Scylla and Charybdis that was a hard task for them, but they completed it. I also helped Odysseus escape the grasp of Calypso, which I found challenge in. When Odysseus returned home he was by himself; all of his men had died in the journey. I turned Odysseus into a beggar when he returned. I did it to help him get the unwanted suitors using his wife, out of his house. Nobody was to know that he was back. If the suitors would’ve found out Odysseus was back, our plan would’ve never worked. This is because there were over 144 suitors and one Odysseus; he would have been killed easily. That would have left all of the begging I did, the death of many men, and a battle strategy to waste. Odysseus’ son, Telemachus, had seen me change Odysseus from himself to a beggar. It took a lot for Telemachus not to tell people that his father was back, but he had agreed. He only agreed because he loved his father and didn’t want to see his mother suffer from the attention, nagging, and begging of the suitors anymore. We had created a plan to remove the men from the palace. This plan included Odysseus going into the palace as a beggar. We had to remove the suitor’s weapons and locking them away, lock the suitors in the palace gates, and attack. Odysseus began to show off with a challenge Penelope had given all the men, he had won. The least shocked was a very arrogant man, the first one to be killed in the attack, named Antonius. I found him to be very annoying, the way he treated Odysseus was very cruel. Antonius turned all of the other men against Odysseus. That is the reason he was the first to die. I remember Odysseus was furious when the other men tried blaming all of their sins on Antonius. We all took our places and the battle began. I remember the battle; it was gory and violent. I usually try to avoid battles but it was necessary. When the battle was over, Penelope was very cautious of Odysseus because of all of the suitors pretending to be him. She gave him a challenge of which he passed and she believed that Odysseus was indeed Odysseus. Penelope, Odysseus, and Telemachus went on with their lives, as did I. The begging I had done was worth it. I helped save lives, end some lives, and for me to help a mortal was a challenge altogether. I am glad that I did help though.
